"The characters are likable. Their relationship is near-perfect. What they say about each other is passionate, and their love life is ample. And yet ... somehow the reader (this reader anyway) just doesn't feel it.
The obvious problem is that these vampires have no fangs, no turning into bats or mist, no hypnotic powers ... no powers, in fact, of ANY kind other than being immortal and, perhaps, rich because they have lived a long time. Immortality can't really be a THING, however, if you have no special powers and hence are easily killed.
There's too little action, too, but neither of those factors really explain why the whole thing falls flat. It should have been better, but it wasn't."

- If you put awesome and sauce together you get awesomesauce and that is exactly what this book is. I loved it. I can't say that enough. The characters of Valentine and Alexa resonated well with me and I absolutely absorbed the story in less than a day. I was compelled to read this book and am loving the writing style of these two wonderful authors. There is a real story here that seemed well planned and had me truly wondering what certain characters' agendas are (Helen is very interesting!) and what is going to happen to Val and Alexa in the grand scheme of things. I felt that this book was plotted wonderfully and you truly get a glimpse of the very loving and devoted relationship between the two main characters.
The story is told in 1st person first from Val's point of view and then in the 2nd half from Alexa's. I wasn't sure how I would feel about this at first because I was quite attached to Val, but honestly I thought it was a great transition. Both women have distinctive personalities and the writing flowed very well from one part of the story to the other. The sex in the story is more PG13, but that doesn't make it less sexy. Some of the things these two say to each other are definitely heat inducing.
Another thing that I liked is that there are some very cool guys in here. Make no mistake this is definitely a lesbian novel, but sometimes I feel like all men tend to be jerks in these books and that just isn't true. It makes the world feel more "real" to me.
I've only recently bothered reading paranormal romances as until now I thought I would hate the genre. Twilight was forced on me by a friend a few years ago and I've been making fun of it ever since. I just thought it was ridiculous and figured the entire genre (gay and straight) would be riddled with similarly ridiculous novels. Luckily I took a chance and discovered I was wrong. Maybe lesbians just do it better *wink*wink*.
I've already finished the 2nd and am moving on to the 3rd. They can't finish the 4th fast enough. I hope for many more collaborations in the future. - Do you remember that story about the lady who got AIDS during a blood transfusion and broke the public and gay divide for AIDS forever? Or how about, all the donor members who give organs to strangers to save their lives? Well add a dash of lesbian marriage partners and stir in some old fashioned Montague and Capulet drama and you have this lovely little dollop in your lap. Love will conquer all. This book is filled with love that makes you all warm inside but at the same time added intrigue. The practical twist this book adds to the standard paranormal genre was a nice change. Refreshing even! After our slow recovery from Twilight, there are some untapped resources behind the smoke and mirrors, or should I say diamond sparkled skinny white pasty bodies? What would you do if your were a vampire, not by choice, and you have a human life partner? Would you just turn her and call it day? What if she doesn't want to be a vampire? There are other options. And it's sustainable to boot! Great fun enjoyable read! On to the next one!

There's too little action, too, but neither of those factors really explain why the whole thing falls flat. It should have been better, but it wasn't. - I enjoyed this book and it is the first "vampire" book I've read in this genre. I found the beginning of the book so heartbreaking that it really got me emotionally invested in the characters from the get go. I liked both women and their love for each other seemed very authentic. This is always a very important aspect in a book for me. The plot moved at a fast pace and kept me interested. The love scenes were unusual, but very erotic. There were a few plot points that didn't get resolved and a few characters that weren't very fleshed out, but since this is the first in a series, I think that some of what I was missing may be more apparent in the sequel. As I said, I liked the book, but not enough to make the next one top priority on my reading list.
- The author did a great job in building such an interesting world and characters. Love the relationship between Val and Alexa.
- I have read this book at least 4 times. The first time through inside out books. I am a gay male but the story about love any being together through adversity is what is so appealing in this book.
- Excellent book. It has suspense, romance, and just a good storyline. I can't wait to read the next chapter for this couple.
- I liked the complexity of this story with both vampires and weres in alternating first person. Engaging, but not compelling for some reason. I kept waiting for the story to make that turn into greatness. Very fun read and truly enjoyed.
